The environmental friendliness of the active ingredients used is just as important as their performance. All UV filters are rated based on strict, independent criteria in terms of their optimum protective function for the skin and hair, as well as their environmental friendliness. This standard is expressed with the Coral Safe logo emblazoned on the Soleil Sun Care products. The logo indicates that these products are free from the UV filters oxybenzone and octinoxate, which are suspected of damaging coral reefs. This means that the Soleil Sun Care products comply with Hawaii’s Sunscreen Law.

Sun protection – it’s all about the type

Every person’s skin has its own individual protection against potentially harmful UV rays. How long this protection remains active depends on the skin type. Once this own protection time has expired, the skin can no longer protect itself and starts to get sunburnt. The sun protection factor (SPF) specifies how much longer you can be exposed to the sun before your skin starts to redden. To calculate this time, multiply your individual own protection time by the sun protection factor of the sun protection product applied. The result is the number of minutes that you can spend in the sun without being at significant risk.

In the sun – tips and facts

- UV radiation is strongest between 11 am and 3 pm, so try to avoid the midday sun.
- Solar radiation is particularly strong near the Equator and in high mountains.
- Sea water, sand and snow reflect UV rays and strengthen their effect.
- Even in the shade or when the sky is overcast, up to 90% of UV rays can still penetrate their way through. Exposed areas of skin should therefore always be treated with sun protection products.

- Always look for the shade! You can still tan in the shade; it takes longer but is more even and less of a strain on the body.
- Clothing also offers sun protection to a certain extent. You should therefore wear a T-shirt every now and then when on the beach and protect your face, hair and eyes with a sun hat and sunglasses.

- Choose the protection factor that suits your individual light type.
- The sun protection factor describes the protective effect against UVB radiation. The UVA symbol on the product means that the UVA protection is at least a third of the sun protection factor.
- To achieve the protection factor specified, the product must be applied generously.
- To maintain the specified protective effect, the sun protection product should be reapplied around every two hours. But beware: this does not extend the duration of sun protection!

- Although sun protection products are active instantly upon application, you should apply them in good time before venturing outdoors in order to optimally extend your skin’s own protection time.
- Be sure to reapply your sun protection after sweating, after sand or clothes rubbing against your skin and after going in the water.
